Two Technologies, Two Very Different Purposes

A thermal label printer usually works without any ink. In place, it uses heat to activate a specially coated label surface. This turns it darker where graphics or texts appear. No ribbons, no cartridges, and no mess. So, this simplicity makes thermal printing the go-to choice for faster turnaround and high-volume environ. On the other hand, inkjet sprays microscopic droplets of liquid ink on the surface of the label. The result being full colored and rich output that a thermal standalone would’d have provided. However, that color capacity requires some trade-offs.
